Usually, the regular season record does not fully indicate the true strength of a team. After all, everything must be cleared and started over again in the playoffs, and we have also seen many series of games below. However, if you evaluate whether a team is a veteran strong team, their team history and regular season record are still very convincing. In history, those teams that have won 60+ wins in the regular season have also left a deep impression on fans. However, looking at history, there are only 6 teams that can win 60+ wins in the regular season five times. So let’s take a look at which teams they are, and by the way, see if they have won the championship in the 60+ win season!
6. Thunder (5 times 60+ wins)
The reason why the Thunder are on the list here is naturally because they include the Supersonics' team history. They were still in Seattle and had won 60+ wins in three seasons. However, when it comes to team history, we have to mention the record of 63 wins in the 1994 Supersonics won 63 wins, but in the first round, they lost to the Nuggets, who had only 42 wins in the regular season. This is also the first time in NBA history that the Black Eight Miracle has appeared. Immediately in 1996 and 1998, the Supersonics won 64 and 61 wins in the regular season respectively, while in the playoffs they lost to the Bulls and Lakers.
Later, the Supersonics moved to Oklahoma and changed their name to the Thunder. In 2013, they achieved a record of 60+ wins in the regular season here for the first time, but they did not reach the Finals for the second consecutive season, but instead lost to the Grizzlies. However, after 12 years, the Thunder this season has performed at a historical level. They won 68 wins in the regular season and set a new team record. In the playoffs, they even passed the game and reached the finals again after 13 years. At present, they are undoubtedly the first favorite to win the championship. It seems that they really have the hope of winning the first championship since 1979.
5. Bucks (5 times 60+ wins)
The Bucks, who had just entered the NBA, selected Jabbar in 1969, and his arrival also made the Bucks directly become the top team in the league. Under the leadership of Jabbar, the Bucks have won 60+ wins in multiple seasons, among which they even played one of the most peak performances in team history in the 1970-1971 season. This year, Jabbar helped the Bucks win the championship successfully, and he personally became the first FMVP in team history. Later, 42 years later, the Bucks selected another team-building core of his level.
In 2013, the Bucks selected Antetokounmpo in the 13th pick in the first round. With the training of the team, he gradually became one of the best players in the league. At his peak, Antetokounmpo won both MVP and DPOY awards. In 2021, he also successfully led the Bucks to win the championship and was also elected as FMVP. However, until now, the 2018-2019 season is still the only time Antetokounmpo has achieved a regular season record of 60+ wins, and in the end this season they lost to the Raptors in the Eastern Conference Finals.
4. Bulls (6 times 60+ wins)
In the Bulls' long team history, their peak period was in the 1990s. At that time, under the leadership of Jordan, Pippen and others, the team won a total of 6 championships, so they were undoubtedly the most dominant team in the league at that time. In these six championship seasons, the Bulls won 60+ wins in five seasons, but in 1993 they only won 57 wins, but in the end they still achieved three consecutive championships. It is worth mentioning that in 1996, the Bulls became the first team in history to win 70+ wins in the regular season, and today they are still the only team in history to win 70+ wins in the regular season and still win the championship.
Later, when the Bulls were in a state of loneliness, they were silent for a long time, until the team selected Ross again in 2008, and they made a better move. In the 2010-2011 season, Ross led the Bulls to a regular season record of 62 wins. He became the youngest MVP in NBA history with his outstanding personal performance. Unfortunately, he was entangled by injuries immediately, so he and the Bulls fell quickly.
3. Spurs (7 times 60+ wins)
After the Spurs selected David Robinson, under his leadership, the team achieved a record of 60+ wins in the regular season for the first time in 1995. Then in 1997, the Spurs selected Duncan again, which directly brought them to the peak. In Duncan's 19-year career, the Spurs were able to make the playoffs every year, and in 6 seasons they achieved a record of 60+ wins in the regular season.
In these 6 regular season 60+ wins, the Spurs won two championships, namely 2003 (60 wins) and 2014 (62 wins). Later, at the end of Duncan's career, the Spurs were able to break the regular season record in the 2015-2016 season. They won 67 wins that year, but they lost to the younger Thunder in the second round of the playoffs.
2. Lakers (11 times 60+ wins)
As one of the most profound giants in NBA history, the Lakers have won 60+ wins in 11 seasons over the years, 2 of which came from the Chamberlain and West periods, as well as 6 of them from the "Show Time" period led by the Magician and Jabbar, and the last three were from the O'Neal and Kobe periods. In these 11 seasons, the Lakers have won the championship seven times, which shows that their dominance is still outstanding.
However, the Lakers still had the hope of winning more 60+ wins, but because O'Neal learned to plan in the regular season, they only won 60+ wins in 2000 in that three consecutive championships.. However, in fact, the strongest Lakers in the 21st century were still in the 2000-2001 season. They only lost one game in the playoffs that year, and at that time, the Lakers were not only O'Neal, but also Kobe had made too much progress compared to the previous year.
1. Celtics (14 times 60+ wins)
The only team in this league who dares to say that their background is deeper than the Lakers. Not only do they have more championships (18 times) than the Lakers, but they also have a slightly better win in the season when they have won 60+ wins in the regular season. The period when the Celtics won the most 60+ wins was when Bird led the team. With his help, the Celtics performed so well in a total of 6 seasons, and they eventually won three championships. After entering the 21st century, although the Celtics have lost their past glory, they have won two championships over the years, and in these two seasons, they have demonstrated their dominance since the regular season. The Celtics won 67 in 2008 and 64 in 2024, so before the season's playoffs began, they were all predicted to be the favorites of the championship, and in the end they obviously did not disappoint the fans.
