After giving Ecuadorian defender Perves Estepinian a second offer, AC Milan is close to reaching an agreement with Brighton on his transfer.

Brighton hopes to recover at least £15 million they paid to Villarreal for Esturpinian in September 2022, the fees are yet to be agreed, and negotiations between the clubs have made progress.

As negotiations on his departure continue, Esturpinian missed Brighton's 2-0 win over Las Palmas in Tuesday night in Marbella.

Competition for Brighton's starting left-back position has intensified this summer, and Maxim de Cooiper joined from Club Bruges earlier this month for 20 million euros (£17.3 million) plus additional terms.

The Belgian international will play for the club along with Esturpinian and Feldicadio Glu (absented for most of last season with toe injuries), with Igor, Tarik Ramptai and Jack Hinsherwood all served as left-backs last season.

Estupinian joined Brighton from Spain's Villarreal in September 2022, with a transfer fee of just under £15 million, making 104 appearances for the club, scoring 5 goals and contributing 14 assists.

The 27-year-old spent a fruitful first season on the Southern Coast, making 41 appearances and nine assists, and Brighton also finished their best in the Premier League - sixth, qualifying for the Europa League.

His 2023-24 season was severely affected by injuries and only made 28 appearances in all competitions.

In the 2024-25 season, Esturpinian played in 30 Premier League games and started 26 games under head coach Fabian Schulzeller, who replaced Roberto Dezelby last summer.

In this transfer window, Brighton has been active in signings. De Kuiper's central defender Olivier Boscali and Diego Coppola joined from Eindhoven and Verona respectively, and 18-year-old forward Haralan Persian Costulas joined from Olympiacos.

wingers Yin Daorong and Tommy Watson also joined after the club reached an agreement to sign the two players, from Daejeon Hanya citizens and Sunderland, both reached an agreement earlier this year.

On July 3, Brighton confirmed that striker Joao Pedro transferred to Chelsea for more than 50 million pounds
