Klopp: Wenger is like orchestral music, I am like heavy metal; coaching Liverpool is of profound significance

Hupu reported on October 20 that Red Bull’s global football director Klopp accepted an exclusive interview with TheDiaryOfACEO.

(This interview is two and a half hours long, please forgive me for having to split it up...)

[Gossip Board] Klopp: It was the wrong time to reject Manchester United; football is all about winning, losing, and ignorance.

Talking about the plan when he coached Liverpool, and how he never thought that he would be involved in the title of Manager.

I knew that my job at the time was just to improve the level of the team, not to be involved in other aspects of the club. Other things happened over time, but I realized it was my responsibility as well.

Well, you never know, I wouldn't plan to stay at one club for seven or eight years. That's how it happened. I don't think they're going to fire me.

But I knew it might happen, so I started planning by getting the first few things together. And then I do medium and long-term planning, or I've always done that, even though I know it might not be for me, but I've never worried too much about it.

What are the first few things you think you need to change in order for them to win, regain confidence and ultimately win over the City of Liverpool? Have you ever thought, okay, the first thing I have to do is drive xxx away and change everything?

So a year ago, not that season, but two years ago, Liverpool came close to winning the title and it was a different team with a very unique attacking style. Oh my gosh, their defense is ridiculously good. Yes, luckily they have a good goalkeeper.

But after I took over, the situation was different. So we had a different lineup, without Suarez. We don't have Sterling. We didn't, of course Sturridge was there but it was a different team.

When I first arrived there, there were five forwards: Benteke, Ince, Origi, Firmino and Sturridge. I want to use a lone striker system, how do we do that? But it worked out pretty well and there were a lot of good players.

But that doesn't really solve the problem, so the first thing I have to do is organize them and find a way to make sure they understand that we have a chance to win the next game.

I remember the game against Tottenham. We only had three days. It was not called training at all, it was just giving them some instructions. Really, there is no time to train at all, no, you feel rushed, there are many games in a coaching career that you have to participate in, and if you really want to be a top team, especially if you really want to win the championship, then I would say that developing your own style of football is doomed to failure.

Because you don't have time in the preseason, the players are all over the place playing international games and so on, and then you find out two weeks before the season starts that everyone is assembled, okay, let's try it and start from here.

You then play against the top teams, every three days starting on a specific date. We obviously lost a lot of finals. This meant we played a lot of finals. That means we have to make it to the end every season. So there's really no time. So go train and really develop. So, you have to use every little moment to implement a concrete idea that we can all buy into.

How do you feel about your football style being described as heavy metal football?

They asked me how I compared myself to Wenger, and they thought we were similar in a way, and I thought, I know, no disrespect to Wenger, I'm a young guy from somewhere, blalba, but if you want to compare us, I'm not sure that's possible.

Because Wenger's football was more like an orchestra and my team played more like a heavy metal band, but that was the first time I thought about my team and I accepted that description. But it's true.

What do you think the significance of coaching Liverpool is?

You have to understand that it means this club means a lot more to people than just football, so you you have to understand that's why what we do is more important than it would be anywhere else, that's the responsibility we always have and we understand 100% that our players understand what it means to play for it.

Liverpool is not just a club that you play for in your career, it is a symbol of the city that you will never forget, so we try to make sure that the kids understand that if we go all out now, 10 or 15 years from now when we look back, I think that's the best we can do. The best we can do. I think this is your and my outlook on life too.

Everything else is just solving the problem in front of you.

Hmm. There are things we have to address. But when you see that, you think about what impact this is going to have on other people, and that's what some people, some clubs might not want to see because there's so much pressure just to make sure they don't write to us tomorrow and we have no clue, at least they'll say they found a solution and then we can think about it the next day or some other time.
