Rabio: Society wants to see crazy behavior; it s crazy to go to Australia to play Serie A for money

Hupu reported on October 8 that AC Milan midfielder Rabiot accepted an exclusive interview with Le Figaro.
You have remained silent since you left Marseille and came to Milan. Why?
After speaking at the launch conference in Milan, I wanted to focus on football, on my first few weeks in this new club and my new life; this is important. Normally I'm not someone who talks a lot off the pitch but now it's really time to focus and start focusing on football again.
In 2023, you said in our column: "I think this sport can get crazy sometimes. The consequences it can have are crazy and there is a clear lack of nuance." After the events in Marseille, do you still think so?
Yes, and increasingly so. Things are not getting better. This is what football wants today and what society wants. I know it, people know it, and we're suffering it too.
Are you still surprised sometimes?
Yes. The last time was yesterday (Monday) when I learned that AC Milan and I would be playing a Serie A match in Australia against Como.
This is absolutely crazy. Then I heard that there was a financial deal behind these games so that the league could have some exposure. All of this is beyond our reach. The schedule, player health and other topics are hotly discussed, and it all seems crazy.
We traveled so far to watch a game between two Italian teams in Australia, it was crazy. We have to adapt, as always.
The world of football can sometimes descend into madness, absurdity and insult. You've experienced it yourself, your mother has experienced it too. Is it possible for us to remain immune to these events?
I will stay strong when it comes to me or my family. But when you reflect on it in hindsight, you realize these people went too far and it hurt the image of our sport.
When you talk about football's image with people who don't necessarily follow football, their feedback is still quite negative compared to other sports where fair play is the norm, such as the Olympics. People need to realize that this behavior is damaging to the sport they love. This makes no difference to me.
After leaving Milan, you returned to Italy. What was the first pleasure you rediscovered in Milan?
It's a bit cliche, but true, the food there is delicious. When I arrived at the training ground in Milanello, the first thing people told me was that the food was amazing.
You have to admit one thing: while France still ranks high when it comes to gastronomy, Italy makes some of the best pasta in the world.
Once again, when it comes to football, it's a nation of connoisseurs. Italy is a football nation, even more so than France. You can feel the passion of the fans for the club and they support their club wholeheartedly.
In France, this feeling is less common, even though we have big clubs and a lot of fans. But in Italy, this is all they live for.
You have played for several top clubs in France, such as Paris Saint-Germain and Marseille, as well as Juventus and AC Milan in Italy. What are your memories of this as a football player and as a person?
It is not easy to play for these four giants, but it is not bad to put on your resume (laughs). Looking back on my career, it's incredible to be able to go through this, it was hard to imagine when I was younger. I feel proud. I hope to achieve great success and win championships at AC Milan, a club with a long history and legend. I want to leave my mark.
This season is marked by the 2026 World Cup. Is this your lifelong dream?
Of course. We have to qualify (the Blues currently lead the standings with two wins from two games in qualifying), but dreams do come true, especially when you see the potential of the national team.
I will be 31 years old in 2026. My physical and mental condition is very good, and I may be in the best condition of my career, but the World Cup only comes once every four years. We couldn't miss it because we didn't know when the train would come back. Yes, our goal is to lift that star.
In 2030, the next World Cup, you will be 35 years old. Is a top football career behind you?
Oh no! At 35 years old, if my health allows, you will still see me on the court. Look at Luka Modric, he was with me at Milan and he is still playing at the age of 40!
(He puts his hands on the table) Wish me luck, but if my size doesn't hold me back, my passion and love for football will continue. So, why not do it for the 2030 World Cup?
When you are 30 years old, will you give up what you were doing before?
This is a topic we often discuss among our breeding partners, as there are some we grow and evolve with together. Watching your body change over the past decade is a daily occurrence.
When we overindulge in food or other things, recovery takes longer. When we lose fitness, we gain weight faster and it takes longer to lose weight than before.
This is life, this is physiology. Obviously, there are certain aspects that I would pay more attention to, especially sugar.
But I won’t limit myself to anything because my body shape and genes prevent me from worrying too much. For example, sleep, everything is carefully designed. There are certain times when I sleep a lot and that's when I recover best. I've always been very cautious about it.
You said that you regard football as an art. What move do you enjoy the most on the court?
To be honest, there is no specific action. It could be a goal, it could be a celebration, or it could even be a beautiful sliding tackle that gets the crowd to a standing ovation. A perfect tackle is an art in itself. It takes skill to grab the ball and get it where you want it. This is also an art.
