Telegraph: Wolves formally approached Middlesbrough manager, but rival club refused to release him

On November 7, the "Telegraph" reported that Wolves' formal approach to Rob Edwards has been rejected by Middlesbrough. The bottom club in the Premier League is accelerating its search for a new head coach.

Edwards was Wolves' top target to replace Vitor Pereira, with the club currently bottom of the Premier League table launching talks with Middlesbrough chairman Steve Gibson on Thursday afternoon.

Middlesbrough firmly refused to let go of the coach who led the team to third place in the English Championship, and did not approve Wolves to make formal contact with him.

Wolves are weighing up their next steps and Edwards will attend a press conference at Middlesbrough training ground on Friday morning.

Wolves had hoped that the 42-year-old coach's deep connection with the club would persuade him to leave Middlesbrough and take over the team in the next few days.

After Middlesbrough's 1-1 draw with Leicester City in midweek, Edwards responded to rumors about a move to Wolves: "It's business as usual, nothing has changed. As I've said repeatedly, it's my wife and daughter who are updating me on this news, I've never paid attention to it myself."

"I'm only focused on working at Middlesbrough, that's absolutely my only focus. "I'm very pleased with the performance of the team over the past two days. It's been a difficult turn for everyone. I hope you can clearly see that my mind is always here."

The Wolves will visit Chelsea this weekend, and interim coaches James Collins and Richard Walker are expected to lead the team.
