Hupu News on October 17 According to Frankfurt’s official website, UEFA has officially rejected the club’s application to move the team’s fourth round match against Naples in the Champions League group stage (originally scheduled for November 4) to a neutral venue. The reason is that the Italian authorities have previously banned Frankfurt fans from attending the game.

Therefore, the game will be played in Naples as scheduled, but Frankfurt fans will not be allowed to enter. According to UEFA regulations, the visiting team was supposed to receive a ticket quota (approximately 2,500 tickets) accounting for approximately 5% of the total stadium capacity. However, Naples received an order from the local police chief on September 22 to prohibit the allocation of tickets to the visiting team.

In this regard, Eintracht Frankfurt board member Philipp Reschke severely criticized the current inconsistent practices of European countries in high-stakes matches: "There are increasing differences in the way different countries and football associations treat high-stakes matches, which has become a major issue for European fan culture and the fairness of events. In most countries , visiting team fans are still welcome, even if there are security challenges; however, in places such as France and Italy, fans are directly excluded by the officials, which is unacceptable."

Frankfurt made a formal application to UEFA in early October, requesting that the game be moved to a neutral venue or simply played behind closed doors, citing security and organizational loopholes at Naples' home court. However, UEFA did not support the request. Reschke said: "UEFA's current rule system does not provide an effective response mechanism for clubs affected by government bans, nor can it make up for the resulting unfair atmosphere and competition."

UEFA confirmed in the statement that it will conduct in-depth discussions on the phenomenon of such bans on visiting team fans and study and adjust relevant competition rules.

Reschke responded: "Although we are angry about encountering this situation again in Naples, this statement from UEFA is a positive signal. Only when the home team club is required to share the responsibility for government restrictions in the future, UEFA will Only in this way can the security policy of European competitions be fairer and no longer make visiting team fans and teams the only victims."

Since Frankfurt fans were first banned from attending the game in Naples in 2023, there have been 15 similar government bans in European competitions.
