September 18th, The Mexican Cougar Club celebrated a favorable judgment by the Tribunal of Arbitration for Sports (TAS) on Wednesday to confirm the validity of the termination of the contract with former Brazilian player Alves.

Mexico Cougars said in an official statement: "The club received an arbitration award from the Sports Arbitration Tribunal on September 1, 2025 in regard to the contract dispute between the club and Alves."

TAS overturned the FIFA Dispute Resolution Tribunal's decision on May 15, 2024, maintaining the legality of the club's termination with the former Barcelona player. The Cougar immediately terminated her contract after Alves was accused of raping a woman in a Barcelona nightclub in January 2023, and the player was eventually sentenced to four and a half years in prison.

In February of the same year, Brazilian media UOL disclosed that the Cougars had claimed $5 million from the fullback, and were arrested in Spain for violating the terms of the contract. FIFA initially failed to support the club's claims, prompting the Cougars to resort to TAS to seek to overturn the original verdict and demanding Alves pay compensation to the club.

Cougars said in the announcement: "In addition to confirming the validity of the club's legitimate termination, the court also ruled that Mr. Alves pays compensation higher than the amount ruling of FIFA to compensate for the losses he caused to the institution."
