Clutch Points: Timberwolves spend $335 million to re-sign Gobert, Reid and Randle

According to US media ClutchPoints, the Timberwolves are fully betting on a taller lineup and have invested US$335 million💰. In the 2024 offseason, with Rudy Gobert declining his player option, the team could have reorganized the lineup around Anthony Edwards and reinforced for the future, which meant that the frontcourt trio of Gobert, Naz Reid and Julius Randle would all become free agents in 2025, freeing up at least $50 million in salary space. Despite making it to their first conference finals in more than a decade, the team still passed on Towns, and everyone except Edwards could theoretically be traded👀. But before the start of the season, the Timberwolves renewed Gobert's contract with a three-year, $100 million contract. After the season, they reached the conference finals for the second consecutive year. In order to strive for promotion for the third time this season, the team chose to use size advantage and chemical reaction as a blueprint for success: 💰Reed was signed for 125 million in 5 years, 💰Randle was signed for 100 million in 3 years. Spending big money on three players that doesn't even include the team's best player may seem risky, but the Wolves are doubling down on a system that has worked in recent years. What if we can finally achieve another good performance in the playoffs or win the championship? Presumably no one will care about this price tag🏆
