The God of Basketball Appears! Jordan: I Want to Play Again and Compete with the Strong
12:41am, 23 October 2025【Basketball】
On October 22, Michael Jordan "appeared" in the midfield session of the NBA's new season opener. He appeared on NBC's broadcast program as a special guest commentator for the first time. He said the move was to "give back to basketball."
Jordan and NBC commentator Mike Tirico presented the program in the form of a dialogue. This series of programs is called "MJ: Insight into Excellence" and will be broadcast during the season. Jordan mentioned that he made a conscious choice to spend more time with his family instead of appearing in the public eye frequently. But he also admitted that he hopes to "pass on the experience."

"I have a responsibility to the sport of basketball... As a basketball player, I have an obligation to pass on my successful experience and love for the game to future generations." Jordan said in the first episode of the program.
Jordan’s appearance is also an important scene in NBC’s return to the NBA broadcast stage after more than 20 years. The 62-year-old Jordan is a six-time NBA champion and Hall of Fame member, and is considered one of the greatest players in history. He said his competitive fire is still burning, but he barely touches basketball anymore. Some time ago, when Jordan was renting a house, the homeowner's grandchildren asked him to take a photo and invited him to shoot a free throw on the court in the yard. Jordan recalled with a smile that he was "extremely nervous" at that moment, "more nervous than at any time in these years."
"Because those children have heard my stories from their parents 30 years ago." Jordan said, "What they expect to see is me 30 years ago, but I haven't touched a basketball for a long time."
"I hope you made that shot." Tirico teased.
"Of course." Jordan replied with a smile, "That ball made my whole week happy."

NBC stated that the next episode of the series of talks between Jordan and Tirico will be broadcast on October 29, and one of the topics will involve the current "load management" phenomenon in the NBA.
"I really wish I could take a magic pill, put on a jersey and play ball again, because that's who I am." Jordan said, "That feeling of competition and confrontation is what drives me to live. I miss the time when I challenge myself and compete with the strong. But in comparison, sitting here chatting with you now is much better than rupturing your Achilles tendon and being in a wheelchair."
