The referee was fucked and bleeding from nose. Why did the fans "schadenfresh"? The grudge between Paul and Foster!

The Thunder's Dortmund jumped the ball and slapped the referee Foster's nose, making him bleed. Faced with such accidental injury, many fans gloated and said bluntly that Dortmund was giving a meeting gift to Paul, the former Thunder brother who was watching the game on the spot. Given that some fans still don’t know this joke, let’s look at what kind of grudges Paul and a referee can have.

Time is back last season, and Paul, who is still in the Warriors, was fouled by Foster while defending Durant. The two gradually became popular during the conversation. Judging from their mouth shape, Paul scolded Foster several times to start with B. The latter yelled two technical fouls and directly expelled Paul. Paul explained to the assistant coach angrily, "He just said my son!"

What does this have to do with Paul's son? There are two versions of the story. The first one was revealed by a podcast show by former NBA star Arenas, and there is no clear date of the incident. But after a certain game where Foster was refereeing, Paul's son was playing in the stadium passage. Foster drove by, honked at Paul Little, and shouted, "Get out quickly, don't block the way", with a lot of dirty words. Paul was very upset when he found out. The second is the online version. During the Clippers, Paul Jr. criticized Foster on the sidelines and blew too badly, and the latter counterattacked and insulted the child.

Paul himself never disclosed the specific details publicly, and only admitted that it was a "personal grudge" related to his son, and this grudge alliance is well known. Paul's father, Paul and then head coach Rivers also specially held a meeting with Foster for this. Paul believes that Foster later used technical fouls and other punishments to achieve his revenge on the court.

Paul's view also has sufficient data support. So far, Paul has been enforced by Foster in the playoffs with a record of 3 wins and 17 losses, including a 14-game losing streak, including the biggest score difference in the playoffs in 2009, and the 2018 Western Conference Finals tiebreak, and the Rockets were missed and misjudged 9 fouls. Before the Thunder tied with the Rockets in the first round of 2020, Foster also deliberately made Paul's mentality: "Don't forget that I brag about the first playoff tiebreak in your life." That was the tiebreaker that lost to the Spurs in the Western Conference semi-finals in 2008, and the Thunder lost 102-104 in 2020.

Since Paul and Foster have a deep grudge, why doesn't the league avoid the two meeting on the field? Because if the official deliberately avoids it, instead admitting Foster's whistle in disguise, the game can be affected by personal grudges. This will also reverse the shocking case that Foster was once involved in.

Time goes back to the early 21st century, and referee Donaghy found that by blowing the black whistle and playing, he could make money with the gambling platform. In 2007, the incident was revealed and he was eventually arrested by the police. Police found that during the crime, Donagy had made up to 134 calls to Foster, and the call time was mostly before and after the game. For comparison, during this period, Donaghy's only caller has made more calls was the gambling platform, and he only called other referees the most 13 times. So Foster was involved in the only confirmed black whistle case in the league so far.

However, after investigation, the NBA vigorously claimed that Foster was clean and did not avoid suspicion in subsequent games. Instead, it greatly increased his refereeship games, such as the increase from 7 playoffs in the previous year to 12 in the next year, and also called for the 2008 Finals for the first time. In such a big case, the alliance kept Foster, let alone touched Paul because of his personal grudges. Therefore, after Paul was expelled by Foster, even though his teammate Zhu Meng asked around the bush three times in a row, the former still kept silent about the details of grudges.

In this year's Western Conference Finals, Paul wanted to come and congratulate his younger brother Alexander on his MVP, but he did not expect to receive additional benefits.
