The tragic curtain call! The 35-year-old All-Star Center scored 31+11+7 but could not lead the team, and then announced his retirement

The time is coming to early September, and the 2025 Men's Basketball European Championship is in progress. At this European Championship, many NBA star players played on behalf of their national teams, which made the European Championship look very exciting.
For example, Nuggets star Jokic, Bucks star Antetokounmpo, Lakers star Doncic, Rockets star Shin Kyung and others all shine on the European Championships, showing the abilities of superstars and star players.
It is precisely because of the existence of these star players that the competition in the European Championship is still very fierce. At present, the group stage has come to an end, some teams have been eliminated one after another, and some stars have also come to an end in the European Championship. It is worth mentioning that after a group match today, the Montenegro Men's Basketball Team officially bid farewell to their head center Vucevic.
On September 3, Montenegro lost to Britain 83-89 in the group stage of the Men's Basketball European Championship. Montenegro interior star Vucevic scored 31 points, 11 rebounds and 7 assists. After the game, Vucevic, 35, announced his retirement from the Montenegro men's basketball national team.
Vucevic said: "I feel very sorry to end my national team career in this way. I was very eager to participate in more games here, but now I can only accept reality. I want to thank my teammates and coaches, and most importantly, thank the fans for everything I have done in my entire national team career."
Vucevic averaged 20.8 points, 11.6 rebounds and 4.4 assists per game in this European Championship, but Montenegro only won one group match.
Vucevic played for the Montenegro men's basketball team for the first time in the 2011 European Championship. He represented Montenegro in 6 international competitions, including 4 European Championships and 2 World Cups. Vucevic played 39 games in his career as a Montenegro men's basketball team, averaging 13.6 points and 7.8 rebounds per game.
Vucevic played very well in this European Championship, especially when he seemed very tough, which was completely different from his previous impression of being soft-playing. He played really tough. In this group match, Vucevic scored all-around data, but his teammates' performance was too poor and could not provide him with enough support, so losing became inevitable.
35-year-old Vucevic announced his withdrawal from the national team. On the one hand, he may be discouraged and felt that he was unable to lead the team to go further. He seems to make people see Yi Jianlian of the Chinese men's basketball team a few years ago, and he has the will but lacks the ability.
On the other hand, Vucevic's career in the NBA is now somewhat setback. The Bulls, whom Vucevic played for, have been trying to sell Vucevic all summer, but they have sold it for 2 months but have not sold it. Vucevic also needs to consider his next team, which has become an important reason why he considers retiring from the national team.
In fact, Vucevic's overall strength is still OK, especially on the offensive end, Vucevic still has the power to fight. However, his style of playing with emphasis on offense and defence is not popular in the current NBA league, so few teams are interested in him.
However, it is said that Vucevic may complete a buyout with the Bulls. Once he buys out, he enters the free market, Vucevic is still very popular. Teams including the Lakers and the Warriors may have increased their interest in him. I wish this 35-year-old veteran all the best in the future!
