Real Madrid is actively operating and preparing to sign Portugal's left-back Alvaro Carreras in this summer's transfer window.

Carreras' contract with Benfica currently includes a termination clause of 50 million euros. However, Real Madrid is said to want to convince Benfica to lower the asking price and complete the signing at a more reasonable price.

However, Real Madrid faces a significant competitive obstacle to the signing of this time: Carreras' former club, the Premier League giant Manchester United, has priority repurchase rights. According to the agreement, the Red Devils can buy him back for 18 million euros by December 31 this year. Manchester United coach Ruben Amorin is also considering whether to activate the clause, especially after seeing Carreras perform well in Benfica this season.

Carreras, 22, is a left-back with both offense and defense. He played 47 times this season, scoring 4 goals, showing strong wing impact and defensive awareness. His technical characteristics, shooting ability and speed have also been highly praised by European football experts and are considered one of the most eye-catching new stars in the Portuguese Super League this season.

Carreras played for Real Madrid youth training for three years and joined Manchester United in 2020, but never officially played for the first team. In the summer of 2023, he transferred to Benfica for 5 million euros and quickly grew into the team's main force.

It is worth mentioning that in addition to Carreras, Real Madrid also plans to introduce Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander Arnold and Bournemouth central defender Dean Heysen this summer, hoping to fully upgrade the defense through these three signings and prepare for the new season.
