In the offseason in the NBA, player renewal dynamics have been the focus of fans. Recently, according to famous reporter Shams, Josh Gidey successfully signed a four-year, $100 million contract extension with the Bulls, and this news instantly sparked heated discussions in the basketball circle.

Reviewed the period after the free market opened, the renewal of restricted free agents, Gidey, Cameron Thomas, Kumingga and Grimes, has attracted much attention. Now, Thomas has accepted a one-year qualification offer of 6 million yuan, and Gidey has also obtained the big contract he likes, leaving only Kumingga and Grimes at the intersection where the contract is renewed.

And judging from the current situation, the possibility of the two of them getting a contract of over 100 million is very slim. Taking Kumingga as an example, there are only two choices before him: one is to accept a qualification offer of $7.9 million for one year, and the other is to accept a contract renewal of $45 million for two years and the second year is the team's option. The previous Warriors fans were eager to deal with Kumingga and Gidey 1 for 1, and it was completely ruined with Gidey's contract renewal.

Gidi's contract renewal process is full of twists and turns. Initially, the Bulls offered a offer of $80 million for four years, and later increased to $88 million for four years, but Gidey insisted on a large contract with an annual salary of $30 million.

After several weeks of negotiations, the two sides finally took a step back and reached an agreement for 4 years of US$100 million, with an average salary of US$25 million. This price is a reasonable choice for both parties - the Bulls locked in the young core, and Gidy received the respect and financial security it deserves. In the summer of 2024, the Thunder traded Gidey to the Bulls in exchange for Alex Caruso. The deal sparked a lot of discussion at the time, but now it seems to be a win-win option.

In the 2024-25 season, Gidey played his best career performance with the Bulls. He played in 70 regular season games, including 69 starts, averaged 14.6 points, 8.1 rebounds, 7.2 assists and 1.2 steals per game, with shooting percentages of 46.5%, 37.8% and 78.1% respectively in the three games.

What is even more impressive is that from February to mid-April this year, Gidey averaged 20.2 points, 9.5 rebounds and 8.1 assists per game, shooting percentage of 49.1%, three-point shooting percentage of 45.1%, and free throw shooting percentage of 80.1%.

Gidy's overall performance last season was amazing. He scored 30 double-doubles and 7 triple-doubles, both of which were the highest records for the Bulls defender since Michael Jordan.

On January 3, 2022, Giddy scored 17 points, 13 rebounds and 14 assists in the Thunder against the Mavericks, becoming the youngest triple-double in the NBA at the age of 19 and 84 days, showing his all-round style.
