Edwards: The MVP must win more goals, and the opponents in the new season are more than just the Thunder

Timberwolves guard Edwards said at today's media day that he must be a better player this season at a critical moment and attack the rim more frequently.

Speaking of competing for MVP, Edwards said his team must win more games, and he personally must "average a lot of points" to enter the 2025-26 MVP discussion.

head coach Finch revealed that Edwards has become more obsessed with watching game videos and shaping his body before the new season begins. Finch said these traits could give Edwards a chance to compete for the regular season MVP honors.

"I think (he has to) develop his organizational skills and understand how to manipulate the court when he is in possession. I think now after a few years of hard work, he has a good feeling about that. He just needs to execute and finish the tactics that are in front of him and then continue to be the kind of high-level, stable output that we know he can do, and that's what you need to do if you want to be a league MVP. I certainly think he has that DNA and he just needs to fully accept it," Finch said.

Regarding the competition in the Western Conference this season, Edwards said: "I don't think the opponent is the Thunder. I think there are a lot of teams that have become stronger this summer. The Nuggets will be very, very good. Guys, give Nikola Jokic a few shooters and they will be hard to beat. So I think we need to pay more than just the Thunder."
