On June 16, the Magic officially announced that the 7-for-1 transaction about Bain has been officially completed, and posted a poster to welcome Bain to join the team. The official social media posted the details of the transaction and wrote: "We obtained defender/forward Desmond Bain from the Memphis Grizzlies, giving back Cole Anthony, Pope and multiple future first-round draft picks." The draft assets sent by the Magic include 4 unprotected first-round swaps and 1 slightly protected first-round swap rights, specifically this year's first round No. 16 pick, 2026 first round (from Suns/Wizards, including swap rights), 2028 first round, 2030 first round, 2029 first round (protected in the top two picks).

"We are very happy to welcome Desmond (Bain) to the Orlando Magic family," said Weltman, President of Magic Basketball Operations. "In the five years in the NBA, Desmond has become one of the top guards in the league. We look forward to his shooting ability, basketball IQ and comprehensive technology to help the team go further. His professional character has been widely praised in the league, and we believe that he can blend seamlessly with existing players both on and off the court."

Bain himself also updated his social media and posted two expressions: one is the sun and the other is a smiling face wearing sunglasses.

Magic think Bain fits perfectly with the lineup. The 26-year-old shooting guard has averaged more than 19 points per game in the past three seasons, with a full of lethality outside the three-point line and a career three-point shooting percentage of 41.0%. This is undoubtedly a timely help for the Magic team, whose three-point shooting percentage is as low as 31.8% in the league in the 2024-25 season.

Bain also added another ball-holding point to the Magic. He often takes possession tasks with the Grizzlies (22.9 per game) to relieve pressure on All-Star guard Morant. That's exactly what the Magic need - they don't want to completely deprive the organization's forwards Ban Keiro and Wagner Jr. from holding the ball, so as not to weaken their offensive efficiency.

Compared to the lineup when losing to the Celtics in the first round of the 2025 playoffs, the Magic's new starting backcourt will be more offensively active. In addition, the team is full of expectations for the return of defender Sages. Sages ended the season early in January with a left knee injury and is currently recovering steadily.

Bain not only can form a backcourt partner with Sargers that has both defensive pressure, but also provides another high-level scoring creator. He has scored 30+ points 17 times in the past two seasons, including a career high of 49 points against the Pistons on December 6, 2023. His efficiency is also extremely outstanding: in 69 regular season games this season, Bain averaged 19.2 points per game, shooting 48.4%, three-point shooting percentage 39.2%, and free throw shooting percentage 89.4%. He is the only qualified player in the league to meet these data standards at the same time.

This deal not only paves the way for the Magic's next season, but also focuses on the future. In the 2025-26 season, Orlando expects five players in the starting lineup (Sargers, Bain, Wagner Jr., Bankairo, Wendell Carter) to be between the ages of 22 and 26. This also demonstrates the huge investment of Magic boss DeVos family - with Bain's salary, Sargers/Wagner Jr./Carter and others' contract renewals take effect, and with Ban Kairo's upcoming renewal, this starting lineup will bear high salary costs.

However, given the potential of this lineup on the court, such an investment is likely to be worth the money.
