Expert: NBA does not stipulate that teams should supervise agreements between players and sponsors. This is a new policy

September 9th News: Sports law expert and tenured professor of law at the University of New Hampshire School of Law Michael McCann mentioned Leonard's alleged yin-yang contract in the podcast "The Zach Lowe Show".

Michael McCann said: "The current labor-management agreement does not clearly stipulate this regarding whether the team has the responsibility to regulate the endorsement agreement between the player and the sponsor, and there are no relevant rules for the NBA. This is actually a new policy that may be detrimental to the team. Not only that, the player union may stand up and say that the team has no right to interfere with the endorsement agreement of the player because it is a matter between the sponsor and the athlete. Even if the sponsor has some kind of commercial relationship with the team, it does not mean that the team has the right to supervise or reject the endorsement agreement of the player. Therefore, this issue has become quite complicated. I think the league will be very cautious on this issue. Other teams should also be careful when supporting the league to punish the Clippers, because they may suddenly face new policies, thereby changing the way they interact with the sponsor."
